Heavy Gear Drake Gearstrider – Variants

I saw someone on one of the Heavy Gear Facebook groups ask about how to assemble the variants for the Southern Drake Gearstrider and since I have mine magnetised so it can be any variant, I offered to take some pictures. Here they are:

Here’s the Drake with nothing magnetised attached, and with the magnetised components laid out. They are a HRC, linked HRL, linked MLC, HGL, HBZ, linked MRP, and MABM.

More pictures after the jump.

Neo-Soviet vehicles from Brigade Models

Hello duckfans, sort of a half product review half ‘look at this stuff I got’ post here I guess : ]

I’ve maintained a list of 15mm Sci-Fi stores for a while now and there are some I am always quick to recommend to people, first amongst which is the excellent Brigade Models. I’ve had my eye on some of their Neo-Soviet range for quite a while and I recently made an order, figuring I’d use them at 12mm (1/144) scale alongside Heavy Gear miniatures, perhaps as one of the existing but not fleshed out factions, perhaps as an entirely new faction.

Here’s what I got, with many more pics after the jump. I should say in advance the quality is generally very good for the price, with a normal amount of cleanup required.

The whole lot. The bags at the top are a bunch of accessories which we’ll use across many vehicles, not just these. Brigade does a pretty cool range of stowage and extra bits.

Heavy Gear Blitz – the Brigand Rules V2 release

Hello duckfans and gearheads. After an extended period of pondering, fiddling, and testing, we are now ready to present to you our version 2 release of the Brigand Rules, our fan ruleset for Heavy Gear Blitz.

For those who don’t know: we had increasingly found ourselves unsatisfied the the direction and overall quality of the official Living Rule Book version of Heavy Gear Blitz and decided to take what we felt was good from that ruleset, throw out what was bad, and generally rewrite everything to be an easier read and a smoother playing experience.

Anyway, you can download the Brigand V2 manual in PDF form here and there is a full changelog covering the move from V1 to V2, along with reasons for every change, available here.

The wonderful Samuli Aura has agreed to update the Brigand model stats in Gear Grinder so expect to see those very shortly.

For those who don’t use Gear Grinder we also have a small menu of HTML model list options:

If you decide to give our rules a try we’d love to hear what you think of them so please feel free to comment! Alternately, you can email us at brigandrules@mail.com

Warlord Games’ Ghar Walker, a scale agnostic treat

Just a quick post to throw up some photos of the Ghar Walker from Warlord Games I just assembled. Warlord are having a summer stock clearance and I bought six sprues of Ghar Walker and a couple of other bits (including a couple if interesting board games I might post about later) for very, very cheap. Only a pound each and they really are excellent quality – more importantly they are very much scale agnostic. Although they are designed for the Beyond the Gates of Antares 28mm scale combat game, as you’ll see they happily fit in anything from 6mm up really.

Next to a standard Jager trooper gear from Heavy Gear Blitz (1/144 or 12mm scale)

Next to a Spitting Cobra heavy fire support gear from Heavy Gear Blitz. As you can see, the Ghar Walker would be a pretty heavy duty vehicle at 12mm scale, which is where I intend to use it

Each Walker comes with a choice of three heads, which is cool. They’re quite like the ‘squids’ in the Matrix films, among other aesthetic influences. They certainly look quite alien

Prepainted Lava Bases from Daemonscape

Another lovely delivery arrived the other day, this time of some round lava style bases I’m going to use for my Black Talon elite in Heavy Gear Blitz.

I purchased these from Daemonscape, a wonderful company you’ll probably recognise from my List of 15mm SciFi Stores. I have actually never bought prepainted minis or bases before but I’ll let you in on a secret: while I like painting minis I’ve never really enjoyed painting bases or terrain that much. When I saw the paintjob Daemonscape had done on these new resin bases I really liked the look of them and got in touch privately to purchase some prepainted in that style. I’m very glad I did because they were very affordable indeed and look great.

The regular store entry, here, is for unpainted versions.

So let’s have a look at ’em!

Heavy Gear Blitz – the Brigand Rules V1!

Note: the most recent version of these rules is now available here.

Today Bacon and I have an exciting announcement for you, duckfans: we’ve just released our fan-made rules for Heavy Gear Blitz! We previously posted about our feelings on the way the official rules were heading, and we decided around that time that we would go through the rules and make some of the changes we’d been advocating for ourselves. It ended up as a much bigger project than we anticipated, and we’ve now rewritten the entire manual and the unit lists.

You can download our manual in PDF form here.

Our list of model stats and costs will be online within the next few days as we have some formatting things to sort out. We’ll also be having them added to Gear Grinder (thanks to Samuli Aura for agreeing to that!) so people can use it to build forces.

If you decide to give our rules a try we’d love to hear what you think of them so please feel free to comment! Alternately, you can email us at brigandrules@mail.com

In the future we want to provide some guidelines for extending this ruleset out to e.g. 15mm Sci Fi or other non Heavy Gear Blitz settings. We are personally going to use these rules for 6mm Warhammer 40k (Epic) games at some point.
