Village Attacks GIMP resources for making custom Monsters and Heroes

Hello all

Recently a Kickstarter for a fun co-op or single player game has fulfilled: namely Village Attacks. My Duck Brother and I had been looking forward to it arriving for a long time and though we have yet to play a game of it together I’ve had some games with other people and found it to be really great.

But since I can’t play any game without wanting to make mods or variants for it, it’s awesome that Grimlord Games provided some assets to allow people like me to add new Monsters and Heroes to the game. Only snag is those assets were very much in a Photoshop only format. A lot of people don’t own Photoshop and can’t justify getting it for something like this (it’s expensive!) so I’ve converted the resources to GIMP, which is a handy dandy image editor available for free.

Anyway once you have GIMP, you can get the custom resources here. Note that there are some fonts you’ll need to install to use the text fields I’ve set up. I’ve layered things in a way that should make it fairly easy for people to come up with their own content. The only thing that’s missing is the dashboard back, because I can’t find the correct font that Grimlord used. Hopefully I’ll have that up for you in the future.

If you have any questions about how the use the resources, just leave a comment and I’ll get back to you.

Oh and here’s a couple of examples of the kind of thing you can make with these files!

Heavy Gear Blitz – the Brigand Rules V2 release

Hello duckfans and gearheads. After an extended period of pondering, fiddling, and testing, we are now ready to present to you our version 2 release of the Brigand Rules, our fan ruleset for Heavy Gear Blitz.

For those who don’t know: we had increasingly found ourselves unsatisfied the the direction and overall quality of the official Living Rule Book version of Heavy Gear Blitz and decided to take what we felt was good from that ruleset, throw out what was bad, and generally rewrite everything to be an easier read and a smoother playing experience.

Anyway, you can download the Brigand V2 manual in PDF form here and there is a full changelog covering the move from V1 to V2, along with reasons for every change, available here.

The wonderful Samuli Aura has agreed to update the Brigand model stats in Gear Grinder so expect to see those very shortly.

For those who don’t use Gear Grinder we also have a small menu of HTML model list options:

If you decide to give our rules a try we’d love to hear what you think of them so please feel free to comment! Alternately, you can email us at rabbitoflegend@gmail.com

Heavy Gear Blitz – the Brigand Rules V1!

Note: the most recent version of these rules is now available here.

Today Bacon and I have an exciting announcement for you, duckfans: we’ve just released our fan-made rules for Heavy Gear Blitz! We previously posted about our feelings on the way the official rules were heading, and we decided around that time that we would go through the rules and make some of the changes we’d been advocating for ourselves. It ended up as a much bigger project than we anticipated, and we’ve now rewritten the entire manual and the unit lists.

You can download our manual in PDF form here.

Our list of model stats and costs will be online within the next few days as we have some formatting things to sort out. We’ll also be having them added to Gear Grinder (thanks to Samuli Aura for agreeing to that!) so people can use it to build forces.

If you decide to give our rules a try we’d love to hear what you think of them so please feel free to comment! Alternately, you can email us at brigandrules@mail.com

In the future we want to provide some guidelines for extending this ruleset out to e.g. 15mm Sci Fi or other non Heavy Gear Blitz settings. We are personally going to use these rules for 6mm Warhammer 40k (Epic) games at some point.

Dominions 5 mod: Warhammer Beastmen

Dominions 5: Warriors of the Faith is a 4X game in which you control one of many pretender gods vying to become the new supreme god of a fantasy world, and pitting nations of their worshippers against each other in their attempts to do so. I’ve been a fan of the series since Dominions 3 – Bacon Radar has been for a lot longer – and I definitely recommend it if you enjoy deep and complicated strategy games.

Heavy Gear Blitz – Copperhead unit addon

When Heavy Gear Blitz moved to its latest incarnation – the Living Rule Book – certain models and variants that had existed in previous versions were left out. Several of these are older (in the fiction) Southern gears. The models for these gears are still available and still pretty dang cool, so I’m interested in adding them back into the game.

Thankfully this is quite easy to do because:

A) I have the rules/stats for the models in the previous edition of game

B) The Living Rule Book version of HGB is actually a system which is very easy to add to and work out a sensible TV cost for the model.

The fifth of these I want to add is the Rattlesnake, still available from the DP9 store. I present it here in the format of the LRB so others can use it in their games.
